Does the coating “seal” the fabric?
Not in the way a sheet of plastic seals a surface. A suitable furniture treatment is designed to be extremely thin and to preserve the appearance and normal character of the material. On woven upholstery, air spaces and the structure of the textile still exist. The objective is to alter the outer interaction not to laminate the sofa.
This distinction matters because claims such as “100% waterproof” can create the wrong expectation. Protection is influenced by the formula, fibre, coverage, spill type, contact time and wear.

Why curing time is not optional
Immediately after application, the treatment may not have reached its intended performance. Curing gives the active ingredients time to organise, anchor or set according to the product design. Sitting on the item, covering it, exposing it to moisture or cleaning it too soon can disturb this stage.
Good question to ask: “When can we sit on it, replace cushions and clean it again?” The correct answer depends on the specific material and product not a universal internet rule.

Can I see the nanocoating?
The goal is for the finished treatment to be visually unobtrusive. You may see liquid beading during a suitable demonstration, but the layer itself should not look like a film.
Does a high contact angle guarantee stain resistance?
No single measurement predicts every household spill. Oils, dyes, heat, contact time, abrasion and the construction beneath the surface also influence results.
Does the coating kill germs?
Stain or liquid resistance does not automatically mean antimicrobial performance. That would require a product specifically designed, tested and represented for that purpose.
Why can two sofas respond differently?
They may use different fibres, dyes, backing, factory finishes, cleaning histories and levels of wear even when the colour looks similar.
